We’ve Gone Green! Solar Installation at AEA

We’ve gone green!  If you’ve visited our 8 Medical Park Drive office lately you may have noticed a change in our multi-angled roof line.  Crews recently completed the solar installation begun in mid-October at Asheville Eye’s 8 Medical Park Drive facility.  We are very excited to reduce our carbon footprint at our 38,000 square foot office in the Regional Medical Park in Asheville off Sweeten Creek Road.  AEA will obtain approximately 20% of the building’s energy requirements through the incorporation of the new 138.5 kilowatt system, which is comprised of four hundred and eighty six (486) US-made SolarWorld 285 watt modules.  The photovoltaic system will produce an estimated 188.8 megawatt hours of electricity annually and is net metered with Duke Energy.

Asheville Eye Associates is one of the first healthcare providers in Western North Carolina to utilize solar technology, leading the way towards more healthy and sustainable operations for the community.  We’re proud to partner with local Weaverville based SUNDANCE POWER SYSTEMS, Inc. for the design and installation of the system http://www.sundancepower.com/project/asheville-eye-associates/

The practice decided to explore solar technologies as a means to to “go green” and reduce fossil fuel consumption at our main facilty.  “Global concerns about climate change, and regional air and water quality are issues which affect all of us who live and work in Western North Carolina.  So it makes sense for us to move towards sustainable energy strategies such as solar power as we renovate our facilities,” stated Edward K. Isbey, III, MD.
