We offer a complete range of surgical eye services, for patients of all ages. Our surgeons expertise is recognized by their academic peers; a number of our surgeons serve as Assistant Consulting Professors for Duke University Eye Center. Many of our surgeons serve on national academic boards and national committees in association with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Asheville Eye Associates is recognized as a center of excellence by major pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. Our surgeons are sought out by manufacturers to conduct clinical trials on new medications and technologies.

Retinal Services: Our retinal surgeons have over 50 years combined experience. They are located at our office at 21 Medical Park Drive in Regional Medical Park in Asheville.

Cataract Surgery: Our cataract surgeons have over 150 years of combined cataract surgery experience. They are trained in the latest surgical techniques and medical care, including complex surgical procedures. Together they have performed thousands of surgical procedures.

LASIK Surgery: Our LASIK surgeon has performed thousands of vision correction procedures. He is fellowship-trained, having completed extensive training as eye surgery specialists, and has been recognized nationally for excellence in LASIK surgery.

Our People

Our staff is highly trained and experienced. Our Optometrists our board certified by the North Carolina State Board of Optometry, and our opticians have a combined 123 years experience in the optical industry. We are proud of our doctors who are Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Many of our doctors participate in local and national eye projects.

Dedicated Surgery Center

Asheville Eye Surgery Center (AESC) is a fully licensed and accredited outpatient surgery center dedicated exclusively to eye surgery.

This center is located adjacent to the Asheville Eye Associates location at 8 Medical Park Drive. The surgery center is utilized exclusively for cataract, corneal, glaucoma, and oculoplastic surgeries. We are proud to provide a full spectrum of eye care services in one location. Your surgeon also works collaboratively with other healthcare providers in our region to ensure continuity of your eye care.

AESC is fully licensed by the state of North Carolina. The center is Medicare certified and also has been awarded the Certificate of Accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC). Our Certificate of Accreditation is a symbol of our commitment to provide high-quality eyecare and that our center has obtained the standards approved by AAAHC. Accreditation is only awarded to organizations that achieve and maintain the standards.

AESC proudly recognizes our highly experienced and qualified surgical teams. We are proud of our surgeons who are Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Our surgeons are members of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and many are Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. They have performed thousands of surgical procedures. Our surgeons are trained in the latest surgical techniques, including complex surgical procedures. Anesthesia care is provided by independently contracted Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) who work with your surgeon to ensure your comfort and safety during your surgical stay. AESC utilizes and incorporates state-of-the-art equipment into the care provided to each surgical patient.

The AESC’s goal is to exceed your expectations throughout your surgical experience in our facility. Research

Asheville Eye Associates participates in clinical research programs involving the anterior segment (front of the eye) and retinal diseases such as macular degeneration.
We are pleased to offer our patients the benefit of participating in studies at the leading edge of eyecare while maintaining a focus on patient safety and quality of care. To date, numerous clinical trials for anterior and posterior segments have been initiated to cover a wide range of diseases from cataract, glaucoma, infectious and allergic disease to macular degeneration and retinal disease. Our clinical research programs will continue to expand to provide continued excellence in patient care.

Advanced Technology

Asheville Eye Associates invests in the very latest laser, surgical diagnostic and pre-operative testing equipment available
From LASIK to cataract surgery, this equipment helps us provide excellent patient care for procedures such as LASIK, cataract surgery, cosmetic surgery and treatment of retinal diseases. We utilize WaveScan™ Wavefront technology instrumentation to measure the eye pre-opertively and which allows us to perform CustomVue™ individualized LASIK surgery. Our cataract surgeons employ state-of-the art technology for preoperative measurements for cataract surgery. Our surgeons use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to evaluate and treat glaucoma and retinal disease, such as macular degeneration. We will continue to maintain our dedication to utilizing technology to provide excellent patient care.

Our Facilities

We have (6) primary locations to serve you – 2 in Asheville, 1 in Arden, 1 in Hendersonville, 1 in Franklin, and 1 in Sylva. Our retinal physicians also see patients at satellite locations in Hayesville and Boone.
Our fully licensed and accredited outpatient Surgery Center, dedicated exclusively to eye surgery, is located adjacent to our main location at 8 Medical Park Drive in the Regional Medical Park in Asheville.

Our center for retina and vitreous eye care is also located in Regional Medical Park at 21 Medical Park Drive.

Asheville Eye Associates has the largest optical shop in WNC at our 8 Medical Park Drive office, and we also have optical shops available for your convenience at our 2001 Hendersonville Road office in Asheville, and in our Hendersonville, Franklin and Sylva locations.

As a proud member of communities throughout western North Carolina, Asheville Eye Associates supports many local charities.

Our doctors and staff participate in a number of initiatives, which include providing free eye exams through Project Access in association with the Buncombe County Medical Society. Our commitment to vision care and services for all people in western North Carolina is also demonstrated by our support for the Low Vision Center and Mountain Area Radio Reading Service, two WNC non-profit entities which provide services for people with sight impairment. 

The practice also contributes to a number of events and programs which support communities in Buncombe, Henderson, Jackson, Macon and other counties in WNC, as well as national programs such as Eye Care America.
